List of fault codes for Jac HFC4da1-2c China IV diesel engines
Fault Diagnosis
The electronic control unit (ECU) continuously monitors sensors, actuators, circuits, MILs (Malfunction Indicator Lights), battery voltage, and even itself. It performs reliability tests on sensor output signals, actuator drive signals, and internal signals. When there are faults in a specific link or a signal is deemed unreliable, the ECU immediately records fault information in the RAM fault memory. This information is stored as diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and displayed in the order of occurrence.
Jac HFC4da1-2c China-IV Diesel Engines
Faults can be classified as “steady faults” or “random faults” based on their frequency of occurrence. Steady faults refer to faults that persist beyond a set stabilization time, while random faults include temporary open circuit faults or poor connector contacts. If a fault remains for the set stabilization time, it is identified as a steady fault and stored as such. If the fault disappears, it is considered a random fault and marked as “nonexistent.” If the fault reoccurs, it is still classified as a random fault. However, historical faults marked as “existent” will not affect the normal operation of the engine.
Fault Types
Short to positive power supply
Short or open to ground (If there’s a pull-up or pull-down resistor for the input stage, an open circuit failure of the input port is identified as a short to positive power supply or ground fault)
Unreliable signal
Fault Frequency Counter
Each identified fault has an associated frequency counter value (Hz), which determines the storage time of the fault information record in memory after the fault disappears. For initial fault identification, the frequency counter value is set to 40. If the fault condition remains unchanged, this value remains the same indefinitely. When the fault disappears and the condition is maintained for a certain period, the value is reduced by 1 after every successful engine start (when the engine speed exceeds the start completion speed). At this point, the ECU recognizes that the fault has disappeared but the fault information record still exists.
If a fault (such as a fault caused by poor contact) frequently appears and disappears, the frequency counter value is increased by 1, but it will not exceed the upper limit of 100.
When the frequency counter value reaches zero, all fault information records in the fault memory are completely cleared.
Fault Alarm
In the electronic control system, when there are faults in critical components such as the ECU, coolant temperature sensor, phase sensor, boost pressure sensor, revolution speed sensor, air flow meter, fuel injector, fan relay, etc., the ECU will emit alarms through MIL flashing until the faults are resolved.
Fault Reading
Fault information records can be retrieved from the electronic control unit using a fault diagnostic apparatus. However, certain faults can only be detected when the vehicle reaches specific operating conditions.
Clearing Fault Information Records
After resolving a fault, the fault information records in memory should be cleared. DTCs can be cleared using the following methods:
When the ECU frequency counter value reaches 0, the fault information records in the fault memory are automatically cleared.
The fault diagnostic apparatus can be used to clear the fault information records with the “Fault Memory Zero Clearing” command.
Fault Detection
After obtaining fault information records, only the suspected positions of fault occurrence are known. However, this does not mean that the faults have been detected. The cause of a fault may be a damaged electrical component (such as a sensor, actuator, or ECU), an open circuit in a wire, a wire shorted to ground or the battery positive pole, or even a mechanical failure. Faults manifest as various symptoms, and when these symptoms are detected, the fault information records should be checked for existence using a fault diagnostic apparatus or flash code. Then, the corresponding faults can be eliminated. Finally, faults should be detected based on the engine’s symptoms.
