Diagnostics

Electrical faults and certain mechanical faults detected by the electronic control unit can be diagnosed using the blink code and diagnostic tools.

Blink Code

The EDC is designed to provide information on engine faults. The warning light comes on when the engine is running to indicate that a fault has occurred:

Fault checking/identification procedure

• Stop the vehicle and switch off the engine (STOP);
  
• Turn key to RUN (warning lights on and engine off);
  
• Press the diagnostic button and check that the EDC warning light flashes once;
  
• After a short interval during which the warning light remains off, it begins to flash, first at long intervals and then at shorter intervals.

The fault code is explained on the following pages.

For example: Code 1.4 means that the warning light has given one long flash and four short flashes. The procedure should be repeated until the code of the first fault displayed is repeated.

• Procedure for clearing the fault memory from the driving position
  
• Press the flashing code button (hold down the button);
  
• Turn the key to RUN while holding down the button;
  
• Wait 5 seconds;
  
• Turn the key to stop;
  
• Verify clearing by reading the number with the test button.
