Have you ever looked at your turn signals and thought to yourself? I wish my running (parking) lights were as bright as normal when they are on. If so, you’ve probably been at a loss to find a way to make this modification. Well, be stumped no longer. I’ve got the full instructions right here.
Materials needed:
One of the following:
- CALTERM Rear Light Converter (#08081)
- Hoppy LiteMate Rear Light Converter (#48845)
These should be available from your local Advance Auto, AutoZone, Pepboys etc.
Description:
The converter has 3 wires going into the unit and 2 wires coming out of the unit. These are described as follows:
CALTERM #08081
Car side
Trailer side
Brake
Left indicator
Right turn signal a. Left turn signal / brake
Right indicator / brake
HOPPY #48845
Car side
Trailer side
GREEN = Right indicator
RED = Brake
YELLOW = Left indicator
BROWN = Taillight GREEN = Right indicator / Brake
YELLOW = Light indicator / brake
BROWN = Taillight
Installation:
- First decide where you want to mount the converter (some people put theirs next to the air filter).
- Disconnect both wires from each corner light (leave the black wire as it is).
- Run three wires (two from the light to the converter and one from the converter to the light) from each corner to the converter.
- Connect both parking light wires (one from each side) to the wire on the connector marked ‘brake’. (Use one of the three wires mentioned above).
- Connect the left turn signal wire from the left corner light to the left turn signal wire on the converter using the second of the three wires mentioned above.
- Connect the right turn signal wire from the right corner light to the right turn signal wire on the converter using the third of the three wires mentioned above.
- If you have done this, you should have connected all three wires going into the converter. Now you have two wires coming out of the converter, one for the left side and the other for the right side.
- Take the last of the wires you ran from the lights to the converter and use it to connect the wire coming out of the converter to the bright filament of the corner lights (where the turn signal wire was connected).
- It is advisable to be neat and organised with this installation. All three wires coming from the driver’s side should be placed in a wire loom and pulled behind the grille to the passenger-side airbox opening so that they are completely out of sight.
- Once you’ve completed the installation, double-check your work and make sure it’s a success. Your parking light should be on at full intensity at all times and the same light should flash when the indicators are activated.
