About BMW 7 Series

Model Overview

The BMW 7 Series is a full-size luxury car produced by the German manufacturer BMW since 1977 and is the successor to the BMW E3 "New Six". Six generations are currently available. The 7 Series is BMW's flagship car and is only available as a saloon. It incorporates technologies and exterior design ideas before they trickle down to other BMW models. The first generation of the 7 Series was powered by straight six-cylinder petrol engines, with subsequent generations offering inline four-cylinder, straight six-cylinder, V8 and V12 naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines. As in 1995, diesel engines remained optional for the 7 Series. BMW has not built an M model for the 7 Series, unlike the 3 Series and 5 Series saloons. However, an "M Performance" package became available for the 7 Series in 2014. The new 7 Series engines range from the 740i's 320bhp turbocharged inline-six to the M760i's 601bhp twin-turbo V-12 mated to a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission. xDrive with four-wheel drive is optional on the 740i, but standard on the rest of the range.

Owners have reported problems with the engine misfiring, causing it to idle poorly, with the rev counter jumping up and down instead of remaining constant, leading in some cases to the engine stalling.
Problems with the power windows making a squeaking noise when opening and closing. This means that the window regulator has broken.
Air conditioning not blowing ice-cold air at the coldest settings, caused by a condenser fault.
Failure of the door locks caused by the door lock motors or an empty battery in the key fob.
